Fiction, non fiction, intellectual, trite or bawdy, Writing is not a career, it’s not a vocation it’s not even a compulsion.
It’s something like breathing. You do it because you are alive and you are alive because you do it.
Or, as Johnson is reported to have said, Writing is like prostitution. At first you do it for yourself, then you do it for some friends and then you do it for money.
But whatever we write it’s always fiction, non fiction, intellectual, trite and bawdy all mixed up together…
